'Not a Thread Catcher' and an Anniversary

Hi everyone, how are you all?

I am in a strange place.  I'm not a date person.  My husband and I have never, ever remembered our wedding anniversary: I frequently forget it is my birthday until my children point it out to me and I have absolutely no idea where I was when...well, nearly anything happened.

Yet I do remember that this time last year I was sat in Galway University Hospital Symptomatic Breast Clinic in a state of shock as I was being told that the small lump in my breast was cancer.  GUH was fantastic: I had the mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy all within about an hour and they were quite straight with me: no faffing around and humming and haahing: yes it probably is cancerous, we just need to work out what kind it is to work out how best to kick it's arse.  Ok: they maybe used different terminology but the essence of these words was correct.

Technically I am not a survivor until I have been alive for five years but hey, today I am here, I am breathing so today is a good day and I am surviving.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Mary, my cancer care nurse: Professor Kerin, my surgeon: Dr. Keene, my oncologist and Dr. Sullivan, my radiotherapist.
Thanks to them I have a great chance of being here next year to bring you this message

' Give them a grope, or a fondle, or a feel or whatever term you want to use, but CHECK YOUR BOOBS'.  Every month at the same time (after your doodaahs if you still have doodaahs lol).  Because early detection means they can get rid of it and you can live, hopefully for a long, long time.

Don't put it off because you are fit: under 50: breast fed or any other excuse you come up with, because I was all those things.  So please: check.  1 in 8 women get breast cancer and finding it early means it can be removed and treated.  Job done.

Now, on a different note, some of you guys have been making thread-keeps or thread catchers.  A thread catcher I ask myself?  Isn't that what the floor is for?  Like my kid's feet are for finding needles and my mouth is for holding needles and pins (there is a disaster waiting to happen!). Why would I want a thread catcher?  Errr...how about because they are so cute and so sweet and....so adaptable!

So, whilst I am not of a neat and tidy nature and catching threads is just not my thing, I did fall in love with these little gadgets...and me being me, a Christmas nut, I have made some and I will be using them to hold chocolates on the Christmas tree.  Or Christmas pot pourri...whatever...probably chocolates though! Or sweets! Oh so many choices!

I am going to play a bit more with this design; there is so much you can do with it and you can make them as fancy as you like.
I must say a big thank you to my husband who kindly got one of our Christmas trees in so I could take the photo: and I do understand that it is too early to keep it up....but I will sulk for just a little longer if that's ok with you ;-)
And a huge thank you to my MIL, for sending me a replacement sewing machine.  We seem to be getting on quite well (me and the sewing machine I mean, compared to  last sewing machine which was evil lol)

That's me done for a little while xx Have a great week!

  6. I love the thread holders....I had a laugh too as mine ends up on the floor as well.

I had my first mammogram last year and they found a mass too, they called me back the following day for another mammo, then told me to stay for an ultrasound as they needed to see more clearly. Then they called me back 2 days later to do a biopsy. Mine turned out to be a benign cyst but it was still scary. My first time and this is what they found so it's extremely important to get them done regularly and early.

It is uncomfortable for a few moments but is worth it. Congrats on your one year anniversary, may you have many, many, many more of them :)

  7. HURRAY and congratulations on the first year. I am sure that you will celebrate many more with your pin pals.

What a sweetie your DH is, I think mine would have a fit if I asked him to get a Christmas tree from the attic in October.

    Wishing you a good weekend.

  10. Yes, congrats on anniversary #1. There WILL be lots, lots more! I bought a new sewing machine this weekend, too, as my old one was heavy (ugh!) and threading was a bear! So, much lighter model and has auto threader! Woo hoo! Did a little pillow which I will take a photo of tomorrow in the (hopefully) sunny light before work! Hugs!
